Personal Information

I’ve lived in the Buford, Georgia area for the last 20 years, after growing up in Atlanta where I was born and raised. I’ve been happily married to Allison for over 20 years and have a great son, Cody, who is 17. For the past 30 years I’ve worked outdoors in the tree service and landscaping business.

Professional Background

I’m a self-taught artist. I’ve used chainsaws, grinders and hand tools to create many different works—from primitive faces on poles to a 6 foot giraffe to commissions for custom carvings. I sell my art in galleries, at exhibits and by word of mouth. Many things in life, both good and bad, have influenced my art. For example, I was inspired to begin my Indian carvings after reading an old book I had bought at the Good Will about the American Indian. Sometimes I start to create a work with an idea or a feeling that I want to express. Other times I just pick up a piece of wood, and using a tool like a paint brush, I begin carving. I’m not sure just where the wood will take me. Sometimes I notice unusual and interesting shapes in trees and rocks...kind of like when you see things in clouds. Sometimes I have to keep staring at a piece of oak or walnut, etc. and then suddenly an image will jump out. I take what I see and carve or assemble it into the critter, figure or face the image suggests.

Shows/Exhibits

My work is in Atlanta’s Gallery Cafe on Roswell Road. I’ve also exhibited at J. Reid Gallery in Buford—participated in the Easter “Artist Insight Stations of the Cross” exhibits by Stone Mill Station Church (2007) and Twelve Stones Church (2008)—participated in the recent Trinity “Spotlight on Art” exhibit—and also exhibited in the recent 12th Annual DOO–NANNY Festival in Seale, Alabama. I have exhibited at Atlanta’s Atlantic Station Market and my work was presented by Flat Penny Gallery, Athens, GA at the Folk Fest 2007 (the world’s largest folk art show). In 2007 I also had a large carving judged into the Tannery Row Artists Colony exhibit called “BIG” and was awarded second place among the 35+ artists.

Every carving is a journey and adventure.

Participated in the show called BIG art exhibit at Tannery Row artist colony and was awarded second place among the artists.
